WELS Church Growth Seminar

WELS pastors gathered recently in Orlando, FL to discuss methods needed to grow churches. The model church examples used at this Church planting seminar used examples like Gunn's rock and roll church in Arizona, Parlow's non-Lutheran worship styles in Green Bay, and the WELS tele-evangelist Mark Jeske.

So, the wels is still about 15 years behind the times.

So where did you get your information from? You're acting like Jackson at Ichabod. You just make the statement (or charges), without any proof. Who sponsored the event? When was it held? Who was invited? You've got to tell us more than this. Remember the Eighth Commandment?

I received the information from a WELS pastor and "staff" minister who were in attendance last week in Orlando, FL at this church planting seminar.

John, that answer isn't good enough. You may well be telling the truth, but you have to back yourself up with the evidence, otherwise you appear to be spreading nothing but false charges and innuendo.

Anonymous the 8th Comm.

What sort of weird view do you have of this? If these churches are Wisconsin Synod, and if all Wisconsin Synod churches teach the word in its truth and purity, then how does it constitute a breaking of the 8th commandment to say these churches are going to be models for the Wisconsin Synod? Aren't you now breaking the 8th commandment by saying that saying Wisconsin Synod churches are emulating Wisconsin Synod churches is breaking the 8th commandment? You owe these churches and pastors an apology.

Were any of the WELS pastors you mentioned at the Seminar?

Was the seminar title, "Church Growth" or is this another example of subtle (not so) slander? If the seminar was talking about different worship styles/formats that could be used in a particular ministry context to reach more people with the Gospel in Word and Sacrament, is there an objection? Is that not how God grows the Church? To entitle this thread "WELS Church Growth Seminar" is not only inaccurate but dangerously misleading.

So church planting is a sin? It's church growth now? May as well stop mission work then.

"If the seminar was talking about different worship styles/formats that could be used in a particular ministry context to reach more people with the Gospel in Word and Sacrament, is there an objection?"

Yes.

"Is that not how God grows the Church?"

No. Growing the Church has something to do with preaching Christ crucified and Baptism and is left up to the Holy Spirit working when and where He wills. "Growth" is not promised.

Where did anybody promise growth? Am I to believe that Christ's great commission does not involve adding people to His Kingdom by his Means? Is this what you mean? Are you not, humanly speaking, numerically adding people to the Kingdom when you baptize infants? And if you are able to reach more parents and infants with the Gospel in Word and Sacrament, would you not be "growing" the Kingdom by His commanded Means? Are we not to try to reach more people with the Gospel so that they might spend eternity with Christ?

Let me ask again, what was the title of the seminar? If it was not what is listed here, why is that?

Just curious, are the churches where the three pastors mentioned above reaching people with the Gospel?
