All LCMS within 250 miles of my location. Closest - 100+ miles. No WELS listed in that search. Slim pickings around here.

And, beware of the ads listed at the bottom of the search powered by Google. Not part of the listing for liturgical congregations. I was a bit excited that it pulled one up closer than I thought available. It was an ad for an ELCA church. Review of their site indicates not what I was looking for.

Thanks.

Rob,

I've been told that the congregations listed on this site are self-referred. So, they are definately a good place to start, but the one WELS church on this list that I've been to wasn't as it claimed. I've been to other churches on the list, however, that were. So, be careful, and good luck in your search.

I understand why some people feel it's not a big deal. Several years ago I had no idea of the great blessings available within Lutheranism. Now that I've had a taste, I'm unsatisfied with low-cal versions. Lutheran Lite as I have started calling it. But we're here for a reason and God gives us what we need. I have no excuse to covet what is available elsewhere. Even then it is not perfect. And, I am not left without access to some good stuff.

I agree that it could be a "starting point" when searching for a liturgical congregation. I did that a couple years ago and found that the congregation listed nearest me (20+ miles away) had a Praise Band and contemporary services. I did notify the website and it was a long time before the congregation was removed from the list (like a year or more).

So, again, a good "starting point".
It would be interesting to ask a congregation how they went from being on the list to Praise Band/Contemporary without a change in pastors.

Isn't it revealing that so many of us are going "underground?" We are seeking out what has been somehow lost or weakened or become Lutheran Lite. People are longing for the pure Gospel and the Means of Grace in truth and purity, the Word and Sacrament taught and practiced and errorists marked and avoided. Is anyone listening? I've said it before, come out come out wherever you are. Pastors, people need you to stand up. Take a stand and be bold. We know there are those of you in existing synods that are plagued with so many stuggles chronicled here and at other web sites. We eagerly wait for your leadership and preaching in this dry and weary land.
