The most important or controversial issue facing the WELS today?

The results are in from the very valid and scientific blog poll. You can expect a detailed research report in a future issue of Charis. The author will discuss how these numbers will impact the future growth of the WELS.

Maybe what this research shows is that
"the name (Church and Change) itself should tell us something is wrong here."

The Church and Change Group 36 (47%)

Other 20 (26%)
The current financial crisis 14 (18%)

Educational system 6 (7%)

Your sarcasm is pathetic! this is a Lutheran blog, which has the motto "To be Lutheran is to always be pointing to Christ"? Why don't you start acting like it then?

Dear Anonymous,

Forgive my sarcasm.

Let us then start point to Christ by abandoning praise bands and start talking about weekly communion, reinstating private confession, and clinging to the historical liturgy.

Oh but then you might call me a different name (pardon my pathetic sarcasm again!)

By the way, please send me the link to your blog site.

I'll get right on that.

Mr. Anonymous,

There you go again. You forgot. We don't have pew Bibles anymore. You'll have to get by with your service program and be sure to follow that bouncing ball as you rock on in the sanctuary.

Mr. "John" Anonymous,

That's too bad. We actually do have pew Bibles. But most people do prefer using the service program or screen for scripture references so they can focus right on the quoted scripture rather than paging through the Bible to find each reference.

I'd be interested to know which church you have attended that has a "bouncing ball"?

John,

I have an idea for another survey.

Question:

Does embracing Church Growth methodologies demonstrate a lack of confidence in the Holy Sprit?

Answer:
a) Yes, because we've already been given the Means of Grace in the Word and Sacrament.
b) No, because if you let Jesus into your heart he can never be mad at you.
c) Even asking this question will cause division.
d) I won't answer your question because you have poor grammar and you are sarcastic and stop trying to make a law of everything.

I can understand why some people like to follow along, but I've always prefered to just listen. As we're told, in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God...it has always seemed to me that the spoken word existed long before the written word, and that the God's word was meant to be spoken. From a comprehension perspective, some might even argue that following along with your eyes might make it harder to follow along with your ears.

Ok..it is the same church that has a praise band. It is the same one that (or is it which?) has the kiddos leave the sanctuary so they can have kiddie church and the adults won't be bothered by the noisy angels. It is the same one that is studying Churchianity. Should I go on any further?

I'd like to hear from any of the 240 people who attended the church and change conference their impressions of being there. I also have a question for any of you.

On the folow-up [sic] page there is a caption under the keynote speaker's photo. It says that he spoke on the need to empower and release disciples amongst WELS congregations. What does this mean?

Thanks for the clarification!
