Ad Hoc Commission Report

I would be interested in opinions on the recent WELS Ad Hoc Commission study (available from this page:
http://www.wels.net/cgi-bin/site.pl?2601&collectionID=1743)

http://together.wels.net/2009/4/6

I would hope that commenters would read and consider its recommendations before commenting.

Thank you very much!

I read the final report last night and I agree with all of the committee's recommendations. I think they did a phenomenal job with such a difficult and far-reaching assignment. I truly hope that the delegates to the convention will enact all of the recommendations.

This is unrelated, but I am confused.

I was brushing up on my Lutheranism last night and came across this fact. The Apology to the Augsburg Confession calls out three Sacraments according to this website:

WELS recognizes two as well as all Lutheran churches to my knowledge.

What say ye all???

Back on topic...I think they are all great recommendations.

Here's more for an in depth discussion of some of the things in the Book of Concord that as Confessional Lutherans we no longer do. I mean if we are truly Confessional, why have we discontinued some things like blessing ourselves with the sign of the cross when we pray. Luther commands it (you shall) in the Small Catechism.

I'm just sayin'....

I do like the idea of the reimbursement program mentioned at the very end. If a primary purpose of the WELS higher education network is to train more people into the ministry, then it seems like the best way to subsidize it.

Some do make the sign of the cross when they pray. Is that "blessing ourselves"?

I agree with much of this report. I do not agree that adding more districts will be beneficial only more beauracracy. I do believe that we need to greatly improve the effectivenenss of our circuit pastors. We also need to continue promoting the parish assistance program as a tool to help churches. It's a mistake to completly eliminate the program. I also beleive we should eliminate the ministerial education administrator along with the parish services administrator. The presidents of the colleges and prep schools don't need to report to someone in Milwaukee. They have a board and they shuld act like a board. It was nice to see the word "excellence" mentioned prominently and without apology in the report.
